Imaging as part of your wider health care

Imaging can inform a conversation about your health, but it is one input among many. Your health history, current care and goals also matter.

Before choosing an examination

Talk with your own clinician about what you want to find out and whether imaging is the right way to answer it. Broad screening without symptoms differs from testing for a defined clinical question.

Questions to ask

  • What do I want this examination to answer?
  • Is CT, thermography or a different test the appropriate method?
  • What can the result not tell me?
  • Who will review the findings with me?

What imaging can and cannot show

CT uses X-rays to produce anatomical images. A normal scan does not rule out every condition.

Thermography records skin-surface temperature patterns and is used alongside other clinical information. It does not diagnose a condition by itself, and it does not replace mammography or other recommended screening.
